Fate Churros

This was a huge hit at Youth Camp

Makes about 12 churros.
Each churros is 0.05 protein each

Ingredients

  • 200g Fate all purpose mix

  • 60g nuttelex or LP margarine

  • 2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 40g light soft brown sugar

  • 100mls cold water

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

  • extra fate all-purpose mix

  • oil for deep frying

  • caster sugar to coat

Instructions

Place the all-purpose mix into a mixing bowl and rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the baking powder and brown sugar.
Mix together the water and vanilla.
Pour the liquid into the dry ingredients and using a large metal spoon, stir it quickly. Keep mixing for about 30 seconds until it is smooth and creamy. The mixture will be very soft, so just leave it to rest for a couple of minutes.
Place the mixture into a piping bag with a star nozzle, at least 1cm diameter.
With a pair of scissor in our hand and the piping bag in the other, carefully start to pipe the mixture over the hot oil in the pan.
As soon as you have piped about 15cms snip the dough with the scissors and let the churro fall gently into the oil.
Leave to cook for about 2 mins until golden, light and crisp.
Drain well and sprinkle with a little caster sugar.
